The Princess and the Sock Puppet

HAPPY FALL YA'LL

I can't believe it's been a month since I blogged! That just shows you how nutso we've been around here. Bryan has been studying like mad (and ace-ing all his assignments!), and he's also been the world's greatest househusband. I fully acknowledge that we'll be on food stamps soon, but man! I am LOVING him being home to do bills, laundry, cleaning, cooking, etc. My life has been made to be much easier, which is nice since 5 weeks into the school year I am FINALLY caught up. If you know me well, you know this has been torture to my soul. I am type A, "on top of it" all the time. I don't know what it is, but this year, I just couldn't get my act together. This past Friday was the first time I left work thinking, "Ok, I can do this." Maybe it was changing grades, rooms, teammates, or maybe getting close to 30 is starting to set in-EEEK! We will not even go there. I told Bryan, no party, no hooplah, maybe just a Wendy burger when I hit the big 30. I am sort of boycotting the whole day.

As for Lucy, well...she is crazy as ever.

We've been teaching her to sing "Rocky Top, " dressing her in orange and white quite often, and she now can say "Go Tennessee" and "Go Vols!" It's very adorable.

She's also begun to refer to herself as "Princess." That would be our fault, I know. We discovered this Thursday night when she was looking at herself in my full length mirror. She kept saying it over and over while smiling. Bryan and I looked at each other and I said, "Um, is she calling herself princess?" So when I asked her who the princess was, she put her hands on her chest and said, "Princess." Oops.

Lucy has also moved up in the world of seating. She's now sitting in a booster seat at the table with Bryan and I for all meals. The highchair is no more! It was so weird the first night we used it. There we were, ALL 3 OF US, sitting at the table together eating. How did my baby girl get so big?! And that hair! She is a hot mess every day when I pick her up from school, but man I love her!
If you remember the great fairy tale "The Princess and the Pea" you know that the pea was the Princess' "thing." It was what she was known for, it was discussed all through out the fairy tale, and it was the main problem in the story. Well, my "Princess" will apparently go down in history for loving sock puppets. Thanks to my parents, who entertained her with one a few weeks ago, she has now become obsessed with them. In fact, yesterday, when Bryan and I went to check on her napping, we found her with both socks pulled off, and one pulled halfway up her arm being cuddled. I guess she and sock puppet gabbed until the "Princess" fell asleep. She also had to wear a pink, fuzzy sock puppet on her arm most of the afternoon after that. AND when we went to visit my friend Amber and her new baby, Lucy managed to get both her socks OFF her feet and ON to her arms. Seeing as how I think feet are pretty nasty, you can imagine how this grosses me out. Ahh, the joys of parenthood.
