Saturday in the Park

I always thought TN was north of the equator, but apparently, we're dead on. It has been in the mid 90's for weeks now. It is hot. It is miserable. It is hard to have a 2 year-old who LOVES being outside when you do not. However, we did venture out a bit over the weekend and managed to have some fun.

My parents kept Lu Friday night, so I got all ny-quiled up and slept all night. It was glorious! I went to get her on Saturday morning and boy, it was a day! She was a holy terror. We took her on a wagon ride around the neighborhood (at her request, because you KNOW I don't voluntarily go out in 95 degree heat). She was fine until we headed home and began screaming so loud and pitching a fit that I am sure you all heard. Seriously. Then we got out her Dora tricycle (which she still refuses to pedal) and all she wanted to do was ride up and down the street. She was told no, which did not go over well. That caused ANOTHER fit, so we brought her inside for some quality time in her "time-out" spot. That was special. After the afternoon from hell, we decided to take Lucy on a picnic. I know, I know-we took her on a picnic after she was a total horror. Mother of the year right here. But please, after the child was stuck at home ALL WEEK, we all needed to get out.

We went to "The Cove" which is one of my favorite places. It is next to the sailboat marina, has a great walking trail, swings, a great playground, and a small sandy beach where kids can play and swim. Usually when I've gone, its been quiet and peaceful. There are families and kids running around having fun. Saturday night there was quite a crowd there. I'm talking some true Tennessee folks. Don't get me wrong, I am a Tennessee to the core, but overalls at the beach! Really?

We found a great spot near the water for our picnic. We watched the boats, went on a ride in the wagon (yes, it had to come),looked at the ducks, attempted the swings (she still hates 'em!), looked at the ducks, saw the crazy locals at the beach, looked at the ducks, and finally started to melt, so we went home.

Lucy crashed HARD Saturday night, and do you know what? When she woke up Sunday, she was happy! SUCCESS!!!!
